Surgery Schedule

My surgery is now scheduled for friday. I am not pleased. I have already taken short term disability at work so will have nothing to do this week but worry. Super!

  1. Let's do something fun instead! Worrying only makes things seem worse. We can spend the day doing anything you want. We've got to stay on the sunny side - it smells like poo on the other side...

  2. Hey Holly,
I work with your mom at the airport. I had a menegioma about the size of yours removed about a year ago. I know this can be scary, but just remember how far the medical community has come, and the amazing things they are going to do in order to make you better. And they are going to make you better--all your symptoms, even the ones you didn't know were associated with the tumor are going to disappear and you are going to be a brand new woman!
About the surgery! You go in–they draw some blood, they introduce you to the anaesthesiologist, and you wake up 5 hours later. I was awake within 30 minutes of my surgery!–and my mind was clear, I was slightly slurry in my speech, but that could be the drugs. My body however felt exhausted, like I had been hit by a train. I was in the hospital for 3 ½ days, but you can stay as long as you feel the need. You may find it easier to recover at home because it forces you to be more self sufficient, rather than having everyone treat you like a broken baby.
Recovery! I went to my moms house to recover because there would always be someone there to help and there were no stairs-- I was there about 4 days. Try to walk as much as you can, this speeds up recovery and keeps you healthy. This walk may be to the door and back, but you will slowly increase until you are back to 100%. Just don’t push yourself harder than you can go. Your body is working so hard to recover, that you need to respect it and rest and relax, and don’t feel like you should be doing more. You will need a lot of help, and you may not be able to eat for a week, but after a week you can start doing things slowly–like go out for a Jamba. I was back to work a month and a half later, but don’t push yourself.
I can sympathize with you about the hair, sister! Out of everything that will happen in the next few months, the hair was the most difficult to get over. I just wore a head scarf in public for about 3 months, and I think people just thought I was a hipster, no one will know. But in privacy it can be hard. In about 6 months it will feel like it never happened! Now, for me, it feels like a story, I tell, about someone else.
If you want to talk or have any questions about the surgery on Friday call or email me any time.

  3. Holly,

I just found this all today, I'm a little surprised that I didn't hear sooner! Good luck with surgery on Friday. I wish that I lived closer so I could come and visit with you. Keep updating this blog so I can keep track of you. I'm coming to Utah in October but only for the weekend, Zack's little bro is getting married. Hopefully I can swing by and at least see you then. :)
